Trade tensions, economic slowdowns and the accelerating digital revolution are driving unprecedented change in the world economy, creating an essential need for constructive and open dialogue.

To meet that need, Asia House convened leading figures from government, business, academia and the media for its annual Asia House Global Trade Dialogue, which took place at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore on 7 November 2019.

Policy and decision makers from organisations including the United Nations, the UK Government, Arup, Alibaba, Jardine Matheson Holdings and the Monetary Authority of Singapore joined delegates from a wide range of sectors to explore the forces shaping the future of trade.

Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations, Singapore Government, gave a keynote speech.

The conference built on Asia House’s highly successful trade dialogues across Asia, including major forums in Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai.

Roundtable

Asia House roundtable in partnership with Accenture

INNOVATION AND REGIONAL GROWTH IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

This roundtable takes place in the Mandarin Oriental Singapore (room TBC)

Time: 2.30pm-3.30pm (2.15pm for a prompt 2.30pm start)

Innovation is gathering pace throughout the Asia Pacific, with AI technologies, blockchain, cloud computing, fintech and big data transforming entire economies and changing the way commerce, finance, education and healthcare are conducted. The rise of Asian players such as Alibaba, Bukalapak, GO-JEK and Tencent are testament to the role of innovation in driving business and economic growth.

The astute application of disruptive innovation has the potential to help emerging economies leapfrog development. However, laying the groundwork for success is important given the fast-evolving nature of disruptive innovation and the challenges that continue to faze the region’s development - including the availability of talent, gaps in infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.

Against this backdrop, policymakers, regulators and business leaders need to respond decisively and sustainably. What can organisations do to prepare for the disruptive forces that are changing the way we live, interact and do business? How can organisations across sectors and verticals harness the power of disruptive technology and take advantage of the digital revolution in Asia? What are the opportunities for partnership, collaboration and open innovation in this digital age in the region?

In this off-the-record roundtable held in partnership with Accenture, our expert speakers and senior guests will seek to answer these questions and examine the role that innovation can play in driving regional growth.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Eugene Fitzgerald, CEO and director of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology

  • Steve Leonard,  Founding CEO of SGInnovate

  • Vedrana Savic, Managing Director for Thought Leadership, Accenture

This roundtable is invitation-only. If you are interested in attending, please register your interest with edward.danks@asiahouse.co.uk
